How does the Digital Transformation Initiative relate to the AFMC-led Digital Campaign?

This initiative is an evolution of the Digital Campaign, expanded to include the broader Air and Space Force acquisition and sustainment communities, other internal government stakeholders, and external partners. We’re leveraging Digital Campaign resources in our guidance.

Who determined the Digital Transformation Initiative priorities?

Accepted Answer

Building on insights surfaced by core members of the DTO team as well as DAF acquisition and Digital Campaign leadership, we collected input from over 250 Airmen and Guardians over the past several months. After synthesizing these perspectives, we assessed how they matched up with Department-wide objectives to refine our strategic priorities.

Question 3

Why doesn't this initiative have a strategic priority dedicated to process improvement?

Accepted Answer

Process improvement will certainly be an important aspect of this initiative. Because it factors into each of our existing five strategic priorities, we plan to address it in this context rather than break it out separately. Where possible, we'll also leverage broader DoD efforts focused on process improvement and will explore ways to enhance them through digital technologies and practices.

Question 4

How will the projects be funded?

Accepted Answer

Many of the projects we’re focused on are already funded through their respective organizations—we’re simply providing support, increasing visibility, and identifying opportunities for collaboration. In cases where projects have high potential to scale and make a significant impact in achieving Department-wide objectives, DTO matching investments may be available. The DTO and other digital champions will continue to pursue and secure funding for enterprise-wide digital enablers. Stay tuned for more info on the Digital Fund in the coming weeks.

How and when will working groups be formed to kick off projects? How can I express my interest in joining or leading a working group?

To get involved in an existing strategic priority or working group, please complete our engagement form. We also encourage you to connect with the lead point of contact published here. Opportunities will be based on relevant expertise and bandwidth. The DTO team will follow up with you to confirm alignment and inform you of next steps. We anticipate working groups will be mobilized in March/April 2022.

Leadership has fully endorsed the DTO vision and priorities. We’re currently working with leaders to create streamlined processes that will help working groups move quickly and bypass bureaucracy.
